Shifting Worlds

Shifting Worlds

Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust and Meadow Arts present a programme of contemporary art in response to the broad cultural and social significance of Coalbrookdale, ‘birthplace of industry’ and now a World Heritage Site.

Shifting Worlds explores the profound changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution; how, as a result of daring undertakings in this idyllic Shropshire valley, our world shifted forever. Through a series of artistic and academic propositions, the Shifting Worlds programme examines the role of the natural world, technology, and the imagination in the transformation of the landscape and society of Great Britain from the seventeenth century on. The programme engages audiences in a reflection about our industrial past, its impact on our present and prompts thoughts about what happens in its aftermath.

A range of events accompany this exhibition including contributing to artworks, a symposium, artists talks, curators tours and interactive family events.
