Weighty Friend

Faye Claridge

Weighty Friend

This artwork featured in Shifting Worlds (2015). A Meadow Arts and Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust commission.

Faye Claridge was artist in residence in the Darby Houses at Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron throughout the summer of 2015. Claridge created a unique intervention on the historic Iron Bridge, the world’s first iron bridge – built across Ironbridge Gorge, with the help of fifty volunteers. The bridge was dressed in its own ‘tatter coat’, a reference to the traditions of Morris Dancers and how women’s work supported the Industrial Revolution.

The event was created with support from Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust and English Heritage.
