Explore somewhere new, experiment with something creative and discover a different side of the Golden Valley. Make Your Way Wednesdays brings together walking and contemporary art, inviting you to explore the landscape through creative eyes.
Led by walking guide Sarah Price and artists Adrienne Craddock and Jenny Cashmore, each walk follows a different route through lanes, fields, woods and other less-travelled corners of the valley.
Along the way, the artists will introduce creative ways to respond to the places we encounter. Using a range of materials, you might draw, collage, record or make – using art to notice things you might otherwise walk straight past, and discover new ways of connecting with the world around us.
There’s no need for artistic experience and no pressure to make something ‘good’. Come for the walking, the creativity, the company, or just for two and a half hours away from the usual routine.
Walking style: These walks are leisurely, but will sometimes take us off the beaten track. There will be pauses to catch our breath and take in the scenery, within the 2 hours. Upon booking your first walk, Sarah Price will take details about your health and any access requirements.
This walking series forms part of Our Place Golden Valley project, and welcomes all who live or work in the Golden Valley and surrounding areas, from Hay on Wye to Hereford city, Ross on Wye to Abergavenny.
If you are living further away and feel you would benefit from the programme, please email suzie@meadowarts.org to discuss.
About the artists:
Jenny Cashmore is a contemporary artist whose work explores the connections between people, places, and objects. Through her practice, she challenges conventional ways of ‘being’ and seeks alternatives for how we engage with the world. Her outcomes are project-dependent and often involve collaboration across different disciplines and specialisms and have included an artist residency and programme at Erddig National Trust, public events for Studio Response at Bartonsham Meadows and ‘Colours of…’ – an ongoing, pop-up nail bar offering colours drawn from specific locations. Jenny lives in the Forest of Dean and is programmes producer at Wyldwood Arts.
Adrienne Craddock taught for many years around the North West before returning to her Herefordshire roots. She has co-ordinated ACE funded touring exhibitions including ‘The Mares Tale’ and most recently ‘Mappa Marches’, which responded to the borderlands landscape, somewhere that she continues to explore and find inspiration. She has exhibited at The Rodd and most recently in the group show ‘In search of the perfect Hill’ at The Art Shop and Chapel, Abergavenny. She runs workshops in printmaking and drawing.
About Sarah Price Hiking:
Sarah Price is passionate about connecting people with the landscapes of the England–Wales border. For her, walking is more than a physical activity — it can be a healing and transformative experience.
A qualified Walk Leader, fully insured, and certified in Outdoor and Mental Health First Aid, she ensures every walk is safe, welcoming and enjoyable. Sarah leads routes through valleys, woodlands, moorland and hills, from gentle, accessible paths to more challenging terrain.
Drawing on the area’s rich history and natural beauty, she invites both experienced hikers and first-time walkers to explore and connect with the outdoors together.
This series of events is part of Our Place Golden Valley, which is a Meadow Arts project. It is part of the Our Place Herefordshire programme funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, with match funding from Herefordshire Council and Hereford City Council.
