Creative Practice in Healthcare Settings with Claire Hilton

Thinking of delivering creative sessions in healthcare settings?

Join Claire Hilton, a qualified Arts Psychotherapist, to explore ethical and practical considerations for facilitators in arts and health spaces.

In this session (75 minutes) we will think about setting up a creative project/session in a healthcare context within a therapeutic creative intervention framework. This will emphasise support for facilitators, considerations before delivery or design as well as how to support creativity in an ethical and safe way for all involved. This is an open discussion and guidance session – whether you want to begin to think about facilitating arts in health spaces or are already running creative wellbeing sessions, all Herefordshire-based practitioners are welcome.

We will cover:

  • Practitioner support: what you might need and where it comes from
  • Setting considerations: What to know where you deliver
  • Defining your interventions: the difference between therapeutic arts and art therapy
  • Reading and resource recommendations to inform your work.

Open to all Herefordshire-based practitioners. The session will take place online via Zoom.

About Claire Hilton:

Claire is a creative facilitator, arts in health advocate and qualified Arts Psychotherapist who has been working in arts in health settings since 2010. She has a variety of delivery experience; from grant funded short term community facing work to wellbeing workshops for statutory and charitable services. After running a mental health charity for 4 years Claire became full-time freelance arts facilitator in 2017 until the pandemic in 2021. Since then, she has worked in a variety of settings and roles supporting creative interventions both clinical and non, with health and wellbeing at the forefront. She currently freelances around her Senior Art Psychotherapist role for Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust.

Claire is a passionate supporter of creative community facing work and has a specialist interest in facilitator support and wellbeing. Having been predominantly freelance for several years, Claire is naturally drawn to supporting arts in health work and those who deliver it, using her own clinical and community background. Freelance delivery is often a fast paced and changeable public facing practice. It is vital that this is navigated in such a way as to avoid vicarious trauma and practitioner burn out.
