Hilary Jack: Deluge at Pershore Abbey

The contemporary artwork, Deluge, from renowned artist Hilary Jack will be installed at Pershore Abbey from 26 September until 30 November 2023. The artwork was originally shown as part of the Meadow Arts exhibition Watermark (28 January – 3 June 2023). The exhibition explored flooding events in Worcestershire and across the world as well as the global impact of climate change. 

Deluge consists of two continuously scrolling LED text strips. The top line highlights actual recent flooding events, while the bottom line weaves together age-old flood narratives and myths from various cultures and distant civilisations, including the iconic tale of Noah’s Ark.

This presentation of Deluge will take place from Tuesday 26 September 2023 to early December 2023. It has been made possible with a grant from the Elmley
Foundation.

Pershore Abbey welcomes visitors daily, 8am – 5.30pm.
Please check their website in advance as sometimes the Abbey is closed for private events.

The exhibition promises to engage and inspire the community and initiate meaningful conversations about climate change and artistic expression. It is accompanied by a wider collaborative project with Pershore High School made possible by a Max Reinhardt Charitable Trust MaxLiteracy Award. The project’s innovative approach combines creative writing and contemporary visual art to inspire students to reflect on climate change and its local and global impacts.
