Over the next few weeks, we will be following the intriguing fabrication of Laura White’s monumental installation for No.1 Station Approach, Hereford. Last month, Meadow Arts’ Anne de Charmant, Artistic Director and Tegen Kimbley, Digital Communications Officer, visited Laura White’s studio in London. Anne describes the experience here:

“Laura White’s studio at the Cubitt Artists complex in Islington, London, is light and airy, yet full of shapes and forms that reach out from every corner. It seems inhabited by creatures that communicate with one another through colour and movement, using the language of the materials that constitute them. Some escape from their stands, some reach up to the skylights, and others crawl on the crowded floor. That’s where we find the pleats and bunches of the white scaffolding cover sheeting that Laura White is experimenting with for her forthcoming work at Station Approach, commissioned by Hereford College of Arts (HCA) and Meadow Arts.

These lengths of material will be woven through a 9-metre-tall, wavy metal mesh frame, constructed by a fabricator in the West Midlands. White will be conducting this monumental weaving and sculpting work in a makeshift studio erected on the grounds of HCA, where students can follow the development of the piece. The completed installation will be hung on the train station side of the student accommodation building. The other gable end, on the Aylestone Hill side, will feature a giant reproduction of the baroque sculpture that inspired the work: Apollo and Daphne.” – Anne de Charmant, Artistic Director

The public will be able to view this installation at No.1 Station Approach, Hereford from May 2024 – April 2025.
