3 min read

Artist Leah Gordon to exhibit preliminary work from Meadow Arts’ ongoing project Monument to the Vanquished at 15, presented by Ed Cross.

The exhibition, which runs from 14 March – 20 April 2024, marks the gallery’s 15th anniversary. Featuring 18 artists, the exhibition invites viewers to explore a unique visual history through an array of mediums, including sculpture, painting, and photography. 15 operates as both an archive and a new chapter in the gallery’s artist-led development.

Leah Gordon will show Caravan, Ty-Rhos, Pentre Evan Wood, Pembrokeshire, 2023 from her ongoing project, Monument to the Vanquished with Meadow Arts. The project explores the social history of land enclosure in England and Wales.

Part I | The Commoners documented individuals who still hold traditional common rights, like grazing and fishing, in Shropshire. Hand-tinted monochrome photos were exhibited alongside personal narratives and historical insights.

Part II | Rural Rebels used montages to explore the history and legacy of protest against enclosure and other loss of rights. Such protests were usually small, local, and harshly punished by the courts, and they have largely been forgotten now.

Full details for Monument to the Vanquished Part III | Urban Vagabonds will be released soon. More information about Monument to the Vanquished can be found on Leah Gordon’s website.

15 takes place at Ed Cross, 19 Garrett Street, London, EC1Y 0TY
