Common People book by Leah Gordon & Stephen Ellcock
Get your hands on a copy of COMMON PEOPLE by artist Leah Gordon and author Stephen Ellcock, with contributions from researcher Annabel Edwards.
In 1600, half of England was common land. Today, just three percent remains. Illustrated with 100 incredible colour images from a diverse range of artists of different eras, the book explores the enclosure of common land in England and the struggle over the centuries to regain access. The book features a range of artworks from Leah Gordon’s project Monument to the Vanquished. The cover of the book is from THE COMMONERS chapter of the project, which was commissioned and supported by Meadow Arts and GRAIN Projects.
COMMON PEOPLE is available to buy at The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum shop and online.
Monument to the Vanquished Peasant is a solo exhibition by artist and writer Leah Gordon, commissioned by Meadow Arts and presented at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, in partnership with Coventry Biennial.
