Theatre of Stuff – Instagram Live workshop

Join Meadow Arts and Kay Mullett for a fun and fantastical workshop about ‘Stuff’ inspired by artist Laura White, The Precious Clay exhibition and Laura’s video tour for The Artist’s Studio.
Have fun searching your drawers, cupboards, shelves, garage, shed, kitchen, bedroom and collecting little bits of ‘stuff’ on your walks. Bring them to the workshop and Kay will help you create a fabulous small theatre from a shoebox or cereal box – you may make one scene or several scenes, tell a story or make a showcase for a few of your favourite collected items (make sure they can fit in the box you are using). In this workshop, you’ll learn new skills in modelling and paper folding.
Materials
- Shoebox or cereal box
- Plasticine, air drying clay, blu tack or salt dough (see recipe/link below)
- Paper, white or and coloured 3-4 sheets
- Magazines that you are happy to cut up
- Foil wrapper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Felt tip pens
- Card or Cereal box
- Any other art/craft materials you would like to use; googly eyes, sequins, feathers, pipe cleaners, tissue paper, beads etc.
‘Stuff’ can be anything you find in your home or from outdoors that is a suitable size to fit on our small theatre stages
Salt Dough Recipe
Makes 1 ball
Prep 10 minutes
Cook 3 hours
- 1 cupful of plain flour (about 250g)
- half a cupful of table salt (about 125g)
- half a cupful of water (about 125ml)

Kay’s workshop is designed for children aged 8+ and their families.
Once the theatres are created, you can set up your collected ‘stuff’ in them to make a scene.
