Throughout the centuries in rural Britain, families, neighbours and villagers once walked parish boundaries together, tapping stones, trees or posts with willow sticks, to mark and remember the edge of their land.
Join Meadow Arts and BorderLands artist in residence Maya Rose Edwards for a new BorderLand walk around Presteigne, as we knock on landmarks chosen by the community. You’ll also be given a beautiful, community-made map to take away.
Bring along your own stick, or take one of ours, and join this contemporary community pilgrimage of town landmarks.
What you need to know:
- Fun, free to attend activity exploring the local area.
- We’ll leaving the venue at 12.15pm and return for refreshments after the walk (provided by us).
- Booking is preferred, so that we can estimate numbers and send you a reminder email.
- All ages and abilities are welcome. A friendly event for solo adults, groups and families.

About the artist: Maya Rose Edwards is a visual artist working across various media through research-based collaborations, site specific intervention, live art, sculpture and participatory encounters. Since graduating from The Glasgow School of Art in 2021, they have developed a reputation for producing ambitious public artworks that focus on the politics of place, rural culture, acts of landmarking, and queer ecologies. They are drawn to rural culture and its ability to engage communities with their landscapes.
This event is part of BorderLands which is a three-year, place-based partnership project inspired by Offa’s Dyke and the Welsh Border region.
BorderLands in 2025-26 is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). The UK Shared Prosperity Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.
