Rebecca Farkas undertook an artist’s residency at Croft Castle & Parkland, where she investigated the fabric of the place, both materially and in terms of the stories and tales that live on through its inhabitants and visitors, past and present.

“The veracity of the histories of a place are sometimes impossible to prove, the truth is unknown and unknowable, but we retell these stories because we like the way that they sound and feel in our imaginations.”

The resulting work, Thereby Hangs a Tale, was originally projected in the castle’s slate store for 2013 exhibition Time Will Tell, and is now re-sited for In Another Light on a grand scale. The projection on the outer walls of the castle’s grounds brings the castle’s contents out into the open and subtly references the legends and tales of this ancient place.
