#motherandchild
Composed visibly as an icon or Florentine altarpiece and most identifiably Madonna and Child by Giovanni Battista Salvi, #motherandchild draws upon the narrative surrounding the Mother and Child, emotively engaging the audience with notions of motherliness, love and devotion whilst also depicting the distraction of the modern-day mobile phone.
The image uses the iconic motif of the Madonna and child, but the scene is backlit by the screen of that most contemporary of devices, the mobile phone. The work raises questions about intimacy and the distractions of modern life.
#motherandchild was presented in the Marble Hall at Berrington Hall as part of the exhibition Skin Deep.
