Insects
This artwork featured in House of Beasts (2012).
Robert Davies has collected dead insects in his studio and placed them directly onto the surface of photosensitive material, then, by exposing it to light, he created these photograms. These images force us to consider the abundance of insects that share our living space.
They bring to mind naturalists’ collections and represents the interest for scientific investigation and cabinets of curiosity, which were a trademark of gentlemen’s homes. It also highlights Attingham’s collection of Natural History books.
