Verity’s work is rooted in the borderlands of south Herefordshire into Wales and inspired by how its social history has shaped not only the identities of the local communities but also impacted the physical landscape itself.

Fascinated by the drovers who used to walk cattle from fi elds to market, she has researched and walked many old drovers routes on either side of the border and of the historical Off a’s Dyke. These lanes are often hollowed and sunken, shaped by the many feet and hooves that have pounded them over the centuries.

In her ceramics, Verity explores the boundary between the distant past and the present, as well as that between the natural and the man made. She believes these boundaries are not clear cut, but interwoven, forming a new entity of its own. The work attempts to contain the space created by the tension between the ancient and the new, the man-made and natural.
