About
Carolyn Black’s work focuses on her research into the River Severn. She explores notions of fluctuations and erosion through prints and drawings. Most of Black’s recent and current works focus on the inevitable flooding of the local landscape around the Severn.
Some celebrate the Severn and the power of the tidal bore. Others are more specifically about materiality, the fragility of the earth’s surface in the face of flooding and subsequent erosion. Much of Black’s work is the result of an action: graphite putty used to create rubbings or pigmented ice melting during the heatwave of 2022.
