Memoria Corona
This artwork featured in Shakti (2013).
Reena Saini Kallat’s Memoria Corona occupied the centre of the Marble Hall as if reverberating the presence of the British Crown over the last two centuries. It is modelled on Elizabeth II’s crown and topped by the magnificent Kohinoor diamond, lost by India to the British during the Raj. Seemingly a symbol of power and Empire, in fact it is a memorial to the Indians who fell during the fight for independence – the surface is covered with their names.
