Amelia Hawk: Holding Space

A lunchtime sharing event for arts practitioners in Herefordshire as part of the Creative Health in Herefordshire Arts Practitioner Network Sharing Series.

Artist Amelia Hawk shares her practice and invites you to explore how, as an artist, you can create and hold space for the communities you’re working with.

Join Meadow Arts and Amelia Hawk for a lunchtime event. Bring your food and thoughts to the table for our latest event in the Peer Sharing Series, designed for creative practitioners living or working in Herefordshire.

This series unpacks creative health for artists, writers, makers and musicians interested or already working in healthcare and community settings. As well as hearing from a selected speaker, sessions actively facilitate discussion amongst participants about their own practice or projects. For this reason events are not recorded, and places are limited.

Amelia Hawk is a socially engaged artist and trained counsellor, who works with experiences and conversation as a way to hold space* for others and explore structures of support. These conversations are often supported by an action, activity, event or object – for example creating a tea or holding a map – to create a feeling of comfort or soft container to foster discussion. Many of her projects integrate counselling strategies within them, as a way of creating spaces for conversation that isn’t afraid, and is happily political.

This special lunchtime event will be an exploration of holding space, in both form and content. Sharing selected projects and her methodology, Amelia will discuss her integrated approach to art practice, therapy and community-building. The session itself will be structured to hold space for you, as a creative practitioner, to reflect on these things within your own work and life.

*to hold space is to listen without judgment, to be present.
