Small Creatures at Croome

In 2022 Meadow Arts commissioned Juneau Projects to work collaboratively with the young people from Pershore Riverside Centre to develop a new public artwork for Avon Meadows. 

Through a series of workshops, the artists and young people explored the biodiversity of Avon Meadows with wildlife experts from Wychavon District Council. The group made a range of observations and creative responses which were transformed into wax sculptures (see images below) before being cast in bronze. 

Whilst 20 of these bronze sculptures are installed at Avon Meadows for the public to enjoy in their natural habitat as part of a sculpture trail, the remaining 20 are on display in the Saloon at National Trust Croome Court from March 2024 – March 2025.

This re-presentation of the Small Creatures sculptures is part of a wider project with National Trust South Worcestershire, to engage young people with their local landscapes and deepen their understanding and connection with nature. In the summer of 2024, young people from Pershore High School and Pershore Riverside Centre will work with artist Sarah Taylor Silverwood to produce a new commission responding to the landscape at Croome. This new work will be displayed at Croome from July 2024 – March 2025.
